Preda FairTrade mango farmers receive bonus and education.

The Preda Fair Trade producer partner team went to Davao to meet again the members of the Preda Fair Trade small farmers association and welcome new groups to join the association of small farmers.
The farmers, men and women, sell their mangos to the Preda dried and puree mango fair trade project and they receive fair prices and a bonus payment together with community assistance and education projects.
The Preda agriculturists Donard and Roger conducted education programmes on the fair trade principles and sustainable organic farming and how to protect the environment. Two German volunteers went with them to conduct their own research into the Preda work.
Here is the report of Donard Angeles and Roger Hermogino who have recently returned from the Davao area two volunteers from Germany.
Donard writes:
“We have had a very successful meeting with two women’s groups; United Women’s Farmers Organization and Bayabas Farmers Group in Toril, Davao City. It was participated by 16 and 11 farmer members respectively.They welcomed the enlightened sharing,enjoyed the fun and light-hearted presentations of the team. Food and snacks were shared.They distributed the fair trade bonus payment cheques to the farmers.
Among the activities conducted were the discussion and signing of the Declaration of Partnership and Commitment to Fair Trade Principles, awarding of fair trade premium and validation of the numbers of mango trees cared for by the new members”.
The two German volunteers Franciiska Gugger and Ina Anika conducted research on the impact of PREDA fair trade programs on the lives of the mango farmers.They visited the homes and farmers where they earnings and bonus help their farmers meet the school expense of their children help to keep their families together and enable them to start up small incoming generating projects. Fair trade has a positive and lasting impact on the lives of these farmers. end
