Mango Tree Planting 2019
On August 02,2019, the Organic team headed by Donardo Angeles conducted its first tree planting activity of the year at Sitio Paw-en, Barangay Aglao, San Marcelino, Zambales. Fourteen(14) community members joined the activity together with 5 Preda Children and a social worker, Ms. Maja Tuma, an Slovenian intern, also participated the activity.
The Paw-en aeta group received a total of 200 mango saplings and 100 was planted today. The remaining 100 is to be planted by the community.
The project aims to protect the environment and source of income for the aeta family in the next 8-10 years.
As an intern from Slovenia, Europe, this was my first time participating in tree planting. Despite the heavy rain, the experience was extremely valuable, as I was able to bond with the Aeta community, as well as contribute to the environment and agriculture of the Philippines. The planting of the trees was very rewarding and without a doubt an unique opportunity, which improved my understanding of the simple everyday life of Aeta people as well as the importance of reforestation. I have learned that PREDA’s work is essential for both providing dignified work to Aeta community, as well as preserving a green and clean environment.
